Sound
Music is playing but the visuals don't move
In the Visualiser, under Playback device, pick the device you actually hear the music from: your speakers, headphones, TV (HDMI), USB or Bluetooth device, or your DJ controller.
Still nothing? Your DJ software is probably using an ASIO driver. ASIO sends the sound straight to your controller and skips Windows, so no app on your PC can hear it. There are three ways round it:
- Use a Windows output. If your DJ software lets you choose a normal Windows audio device for its output, choose that instead of the ASIO driver.
- Use a virtual audio cable. Install a free virtual audio cable (VB-CABLE is one example), set your DJ software to output to it, and pick that cable under Playback device.
- Use your controller's record or aux output. If your controller has a record or aux output connected to your PC, choose it under Microphone (optional).
Your DJ software's manual or help pages will show where its audio output setting is.
My microphone doesn't move the visuals
The microphone is optional. The Visualiser only uses it after you pick one under Microphone (optional), and Windows asks your permission the first time.
If you said no, or the Visualiser shows Mic blocked by Windows, open Windows Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone. Turn on Microphone access and Let apps access your microphone, then switch on BeatVault Visualiser in the list. The Fix button next to the message, or the cog next to Microphone (optional), opens that page for you.
Still quiet? Check the mic isn't on Mute, and raise Mic gain for a quiet mic.
Showing the visuals
Does the Visualiser app need to stay open while I stream?
Yes. The link you add to OBS or another streaming app gets the music from the Visualiser app on your PC, so keep the app open with Start pressed for as long as you want the visuals to react.
You can minimise it. If you close it or press Stop, the visuals stop reacting to the music.
My OBS source is blank after restarting OBS or the Visualiser
From version 1.0.4 this fixes itself: open the Visualiser and press Start, and the source starts moving again within a few seconds. To check your version, open the Microsoft Store, go to Library and update BeatVault Visualiser.
On older versions, this happens when OBS loads the source while the Visualiser isn't running yet. Open the Visualiser, press Start, then refresh the source: in OBS, open the source's Properties and click Refresh cache of current page.
To avoid it, open the Visualiser and press Start before you open OBS. Or tick Refresh browser when scene becomes active in the source's Properties.
The full-screen browser window is white behind the visuals
To watch the visuals full screen on this PC, double-click the preview in the Visualiser app. Press Esc or double-click again to go back.
The visuals have a see-through background so they sit neatly on top of your stream in OBS and other streaming apps. In a normal web browser, see-through shows as white.
For a second screen, TV or projector, use the second link in the Visualiser, under For a second screen, TV or projector. It opens with a solid black background. Double-click the visuals or press F11 for full screen.
Want a different colour? Change background=black at the end of that link to any colour name or code, for example background=navy or background=%23140d1c.
Licence
We have more than one user account on our PC. Do we each need a licence?
No. One licence covers every user account on that PC. Each account gets its own free trial, and once you've bought, the Visualiser unlocks by itself in each account the next time it's opened there.
How do I add an effect pack, like Halloween or Infinite Loops?
Tick any effect in the pack to start its free 48-hour trial; you can do this during your 14-day app trial too. To keep it, click 🛒 Get under the pack's name and pay. Packs add on to the full Visualiser, so buy the Visualiser first if you haven't yet.
Keep the Visualiser open after paying: the pack unlocks by itself within a minute and gets a green ✓ after its name. If the app was closed, it unlocks the next time you open it.
If a trial runs out while an effect is on your stream, it carries on until you switch it off, so your show is never cut.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. You can get a full refund on a licence or an effect pack within 14 days of buying it, for any reason. Email hello@beatvaultapp.com with your order details. Once refunded, that licence or pack is removed from your PC the next time the Visualiser is online. See the terms.
Is there a photosensitivity warning?
Yes. The Visualiser shows flashing lights, strobing effects and fast-moving or repeating patterns, which may trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy or other photosensitive conditions. If you, or anyone who may see it, could be affected, seek medical advice before use and only continue if it is safe to do so. You use it, and show it to others, at your own risk. The app shows this warning the first time it opens.
